Survive in Space is a skill-based space shooter with a hardcore focus on gameplay mechanics. You take on the role of Sasaki, a young soldier who discovers the horrible truth of humanity’s enslavement at the hands of the alien Chronicles during a routine mission. His deep anguish leads him to spiral into depression, and in the darkest depths he finds The Shadow, a primal being full of hate that grants him the power to confront the Chronicles.
GAMEPLAY
The game is spread over 50 different levels, and Sasaki must fight through them all to redeem his people. The game features five powerful bosses that you will encounter at the end of each sector – every nine levels. Each boss is a skill puzzle of his own, with shifting mechanics and environments that will keep you on your toes.
Between the bosses, you will encounter devious enemies who will try to stop you and The Shadow. Enemies are split into three different categories:
Defensive – these enemies are not immediately dangerous, but they will try and protect their comrades
Offensive – the main damage dealers who will stop at nothing to see you blow to pieces
Supportive – the most treacherous of enemies, these will try to hinder your progress by changing the very nature of the battlefield
To face these insurmountable odds, Sasaki will have tools of his own to dish out the pain. Sasaki has at his disposal five different ships – each with its own strengths and weaknesses. You will have to find the one that best suits your play style.
These ships will grow and change as your skills become better. You will upgrade their basic performance through upgrades gained and carefully select which of your abilities you will upgrade. Each ability upgrade is not necessarily a power boost but a mutator – changing the way you use it.
And finally, The Shadow himself has granted Sasaki his biggest advantage over the Chronicles – Dual Mode. Dual Mode allows Sasaki to toggle his ships into Offensive and Defensive configurations, sacrificing firepower for durability and vice versa. Unlike other games, switching is very quick and careful timing will be the difference between life and death.
